So another year has come to pass. Many of us take this time to reflect on the prior year in order to reorganize, reinvent, or re-prioritize ourselves. We always hope that this will be the year that we actually stick to it. It’s a funny ritual when you think about it. Year after year we make resolutions to change something about ourselves, to do something different, or try something new. I’m no stranger to this. New Years Day is the proverbial new leaf.Yesterday we said goodbye to the old us, today we welcome the change we have craved. I look forward to this change just as much as the next person. Not that 2011 was a bad year. A lot of great things happened for me in 2011. But, the year as a whole was just…well, uninspired.

As I reflect back, I think of where I am today and how I got here. We think long and hard for many years to plan out a direction, piece by piece, until we think we’ve got it figured out. But rarely does life follow this path. It seems we find ourselves at many forks in the road. Both directions may be viable paths to take, but we may only choose one. That’s how life progresses. It’s one big Choose Your Own Adventure book, except we don’t get to go back and re-read for a different ending. We live with the choices that we make, and they help to shape who we will ultimately become.

I love my life. All the little setbacks that I felt tripped me up, led me to where I am now. I have the most amazing support system. My wife and my son have lifted me from my worst days and have only made my best days even better. You may be wondering what this rambling may be all about. So I’ll get to my point. It’s time for my reinvention.

In 2012, I’m going all out. I’m going to open my eyes and see things from a different perspective. I’m going to open my mind and unleash the creativity. I’m going to take the risks that have paralyzed me for too long. I’m going to stoke that fire in my belly until it’s a raging inferno. That hamster wheel has been turning for a while now, and I’m ready to get off of it.

So 2012, take notice. I’m about to break loose.
